In summary the first quarter saw global stocks rally, with U.S. stocks leading the way. The S&P 500 Index achieved 22 record highs and gained nearly 11%, marking its strongest first quarter performance since 2019. All sectors of the S&P 500 advanced in March, except for real estate, which declined slightly. Communication services and energy were the top performers for the quarter. Non-U.S. developed market stocks also rallied but lagged behind U.S. stocks. The Fed maintained steady rates and forecasted potential rate cuts in 2024. Inflation rates showed a slight decrease in the U.S., Europe, and the U.K. U.S. Treasury yields declined for the month but rose for the quarter, while the broad bond market advanced in March but declined over the three-month period.
